WWW File Share Pro is a file sharing tool that works via your web browser. But it also has quite a few plug-ins that allow you to do much more than sharing a few files. But first the basics, WWW File Share Pro is really a web server. It installs in your system and it allows users to access a web page that is hosted on your computer. From there, users can browse a directory that you established as their home folder and upload files, if you give them the permission to do so. So, they can both download the files that you want to show them and upload some files. This application supports password-protection, although I am not sure of how secure the encryption is. You can create different passwords for different users and different paths.
You have to do some port-forwarding to get this to work with people outside your network. I did my own testing within my LAN and the application worked for most of the time. The only error that I got was that sometimes files would start uploading but never finish. I had to retry the operation a number of times for it to work. And that was inside my network.
There are quite a few plug-ins that allow you to remotely control certain aspects of the remote computer. Those are very nice and easy to set up and they can also be password-protected.
